Yep, like on attachments of Mybb, instead of click directly on each thumbnail on forumdisplay you click on checkboxes in Admin CP, more or less the result is the same

Maybe with a query can find thumbnails, name, forum, thread, user etc who added the file, but then how do you tell "delete this thumbnail/file"?
The checkboxes should be the aid for the attachments. So we delete the attachments based on it. Then update the data of the appropriate field (column) in the threadfields_data table.
Here is a simple experiment for it (XThreads attachments management inside the ACP) based on the MyBB attachments management.
This plugins made based on the default MyBB admin directory. Please make sure to put the file inside the admin directory from this archive to your admin directory.

Yes, I have a test forum in a subdomain, I don't use localhost because it's too slow and often I have problems with cookies, so better use a live test board
