Unfortunately, we can't do that (I think). Basically, the example above is "another type" of filtering threads in a forum.
There's a few issues with using XThreads as a tag system unfortunately. The above was mentioned, but also that there's no way to display all used tags, and the fact that filtering on a multivalued field is somewhat slow (for large number of threads).
