Updating a plugin for extra functionality

Sorry for being such a newbie, but how do you install your plugin/hack? I tried placing the files in the obvious directories but no luck  

I got the error:
"This plugin is incompatible with MyBB 1601"

Do you have any suggestions? Also it seems you guys were really into improving the Calendar, have you come up with a better solution?
