And I presume you've actually looked at the underlying HTML code that gets generated?
If the <if> tag is actually being output, you don't have the plugin installed properly.

Apply the first conditional in your printthread_post template. Change $post['pid'] with $postrow['pid']

Apply the second conditional in your printthread template (for the {$multipage})
