Different forums -> just use different fields for each.
If it's all in the same forum, you have a number of problems.  Firstly, you can only do some fancy dynamic switching if the user has Javascript enabled.

ah, I didn't think about using the different fields on a forum basis.

that should solve the one issue.

the other issue is now having the new fields have an option where you can rate them and once they're rated, it'll show up where it says 'schick injector rating' on this page.

is it possible with the default xthreads config to allow a field to have a rating option, with the rating number (1-5, 1-10, etc.) specified by me show up next to the field when a new thread is created?

ex for allowing fields to be rated:
test (1-5 stars)
test 2 (1-5 stars)
test 3 (1-5 stars)

how would I get it to display an overall rating?

example:
test 1 (5 stars)
test 2 (5 stars)
test 3 (5 stars)
--------------
Overall Rating: 5 stars

RE: Product Review
You can use Template Conditional to calculate it or use a custom thread fields to calculate it and hold the data.

Looks like you found your problem!
Actually read and understand what the guide says next time, not just blindly copy/paste.

rateu,

how do I make the description box larger on the forumdisplay page?

I'd like to fill in some of this empty space:

The width for the right side is defined in pf_forumdisplay_thread template.
