While MyPS plugins are paid, NewPoints plugins will always be free and so will be the core. (except plugins which generate income like "Buy Points with PayPal") This is what I want for NewPoints.

And I'm probably going to release all my plugins for free once MyBB 1.6 is out (if they don't change the license) but only give support to paid subscribers.
That way, users can get my plugins for free but if they want help, they must subscribe. Now that I think of it, I might probably do this no matter if they change the license or not.

Seriously? I am still not fully up on what that stuff  does and or the point to it. Not saying there is no point in it ( obviously is or wouldn't be in such demand ) i guess i don't understand how something like that would be used.  I have never been a member at a site that uses that sort of thing. I just know it adds a ton of stuff to your site. After reading ( and even seeing in some cases ) what i have about labroccas work i wouldn't use it anyways even if it was free. I'll admit there is a part of me that does not trust him either which yes is related to the fact he runs a hacking site. Not saying he would intentionally do something but it will always leaves a doubt and that is all i need. Same would apply to anyone else who ran a similar site. Why i believe as well that MYBB needs to remove themselves as much as possible from him. They can try and explain it to the cows come home ( which they constantly do to defend it ) but most don't or wont care. That is the worst thing to do. But that gets back to the problems with them. In either case i am glad you are there to provide a option.

Personally i would release whatever it is that the site needs ( Buy Points/Pay pal.. I guess that is what it is for?) so it can make money. That way they have income to help with paying you for other things. MYBB should actually have that in the core. Paid subscriptions or whatever it is. I think it would help bring in more business type sites and as well those who live off of donations. Ofcourse i think this is the plan for 2.0 if i recall correctly?

Anyways.. Good luck with it.

A points system can be used for multiple things. For example, you can have a board where people post and get points by posting. Then, there's a shop plugin I also made where people can buy items with those points.
However, these are virtual items, but the administrator can easily turn them into real items. For example, whenever someone buys an item, they tell the admin they bought it and the admin checks the log. If true, the admin can then send the real item to the home of the user.
This is just an example of what can be done with a points system.

A "Buy Points with PayPal" plugin would allow users to pay real money in exchange for points.
Imagine they'd need points to, for example, change their username or user title (not worth the money but this is just an example) and they didn't want to post to get points. They could just buy virtual points and then change their user title or user name.

Interesting. This may have come in handy ( i think ) on my other forum back when i started that site. The business site that is. Something i'll keep in mind if another project comes up. Thanks..

RE: Yumi, What Happen?
Harry, for a lot of people coding is a real job. It is their income, how they make their living. And there is nothing wrong with that. They earn money with their skills and creativity in a honest way. For a lot of people that is even the only possibility to have a job for various health reasons they can''t work outdoors. So I think you shouldn''t insult or judge them.

Hold up.. You are taking it to the other extreme. The issue is with doing that for a free forum script. I find it silly. Sorry if that sounds insulting. Much better ways of making money with those kinds of skills. Talking about coding for a major company, website design, etc. I'll use my own site for a example. The guy who does alot of work for us has gotten paid in the x,xxx for doing what he has done in a short period of time. There is always something new which keeps him working as well. THAT is where the money is at. Understand what i am saying?

That's where I get the money from. But I don't use that money to pay my hosting and domains. That money comes from subscriptions. I like to separate things when it comes to business so I know exactly which of my business's are not going well.

Being a coder doesn't mean that someone can dump any code in front of you and you can work with it straight off the bat, without getting to know the coding styles, quirks and suchlike of the software and people who have coded it. Sticking to one area means a coder is far more able to do good work as they are familiar with the intricacies of that specific software. Coders tend to specialise either in certain areas or with certain wares.

Btw, whether MyBB is free or not is irrelevant. The Dev's chose to release their software for free, and willingly continue to do so. There is no obligation whatsoever for anyone else to do so. Commercial interests are just as much a part of Open Source as non-commercial are.

Btw, can we please stop with the stupidly long nested quotes chaps?

Do you have to do separate tax stuff for each of them or is everything under one thing? I would find that to be a pain in the ass to have to do each one separately. My guess is that you have to?  I don't know.. I just don't see it ( paid plugins for mybb ) as something i would wanna have to rely on. Which ofcourse you don't.

wanna comment on this real quick before i head out the door for a little bit..

HA! Thought i was the only one who hates them. Why i cannot wait for 1.6! They suck and make it a real pain in the ass to try and reply to as well. I use a plugin on my forum so i don't have them.

Yes and I use the income that comes from each thing for a different nothing.

There is nothing silly about that. Just because Mybb is free it doesn''t mean that every third party add on and theme should be free as well. That doesn''t make sense at all. Especially for big plugins that take days to develope.

Or another scenario, someone asks for a big plugin to be created for him, and because Mybb is free he thinks the plugin developers should create it for free as well. That is just not right. Why should I put in so many hours/days working on something so someone can get it for free? And they aren''t even appreciative because they think like you, it is their right to get it for free.

You are very fanatical about this and one can''t talk reason with someone like that.

P.s. If you would have created a plugin or theme and give it away for free time and time again, then you would have sang in a different tune. I checked also some of your posts at Mybb and sorry to say but you seem like a troll and nothing else. I didn''t see you doing something for the community there but only bitch about paid plugins.

Thanks.
