To be fair, MyBB's DB abstraction layer sucks - IMO it should automatically handle all escaping and no-one should actually need to manually escape anything.

In short, whenever you use a variable in a query, it should be escaped (but don't double-escape anything either).

Having a quick look, is this mostly an external script?  Because I don't see much MyBB integration, except for the plugin adding some links in the AdminCP.  I haven't actually tested it, but I'm guessing it's mostly an integration with another script?
