I have an idea for a featured post that would be on the main section of my portal kinda like this http://host.sonspring.com/hoverbox/ because my forum consist of videos and pictures from members but i don't know how to quite do it could someone give me some ideas...can this be done with xthreds

If you have a specific XThreads images gallery area and XThreads video gallery area, you can use portal announcements for displaying the images and the video, because XThreads variables work in portal announcements.
