The elephant in the room?

Thanks for the reminder.

EDIT: What the CEO did was legal, in that country, but also pretty stoo-pid, IMO.

I personally don't think it's "wrong", unlike some of the Youtube comments such as this one (then again, the average intelligence of the Youtube commenter is pretty damn low):
Quote:SHAME ON BOB PARSONS for killing innocent elephant, God bless him to respect innocent animals lives which are no less than ours.
Either these sorts of people are hardcore vegetarians or don't know where pork/beef etc come from.
It's not like the elephant was tortured, and it gives people food, just like how most people consider killing pigs for food is acceptable.

However, stupid? perhaps.  On the other hand, it does give them publicity...

I agree it's "meat for the locals."

On the other hand, it does give them publicity...

Publicity doesn't help much if you have 1000's of people transferring away their domains.

Godaddy, in general, will be interesting to watch:
Pre-2008: Clearly #1 / A 'Healthy' valuable, privately-held company.
Post-Recession: Many people who would have kept renewing __ number of domains, suddenly are short on money.

Last year (mid-September) Godaddy is looking for a buyer.
  • Will the domain 'industry' ever fully recover?
  • In ~5 years will Godaddy still be #1, or will they be like MySpace?
  • Stay tuned: Next episode >> Bob kills 'problem' d__s and c__s for a South Korean restaurant.  Jap

I don't think GoDaddy has ever been considered a "good" registrar, especially with all the crap they try to slug on you.  They've just been one of the cheapest.

Publicity - i.e., CEO's free chance to get his name in the media.

Agreed

Is that true?
I'm not sure:
If Ozzy Osbourne (for example) actually did bite the head off of a live bat:

Then it surely didn't hurt his career.

'High-brow' example:

Succès de scandale is French for "success from scandal", i.e. when (part of) a success derives from a scandal.

Quote:It might seem contradictory that any kind of success might follow from scandal: but scandal attracts attention, and this attention (whether gossip or bad press or any other kind) is sometimes the beginning of notoriety and/or other successes. Today, the often used cynical phrase "no such thing as bad publicity" is indicative of the extent to which "success by scandal" is a part of modern culture.

I think there is bad publicity and the Godaddy CEO didn't understand he was making a big mistake.
