Try to check if you have {$extra_threadfields} variable before {$posticons} variable in your newthread template.

I do not have that in there!  I added it and both the article gallery and video gallery work again!  Is there anything else i should look for that may be missing?  Why was this line omitted?

Note: I updated to 1.6 last friday and updated X-Threads to the latest version just today...

You can read the official XThreads release thread to see what variables added to our templates if you want to add it manually. Read the second post by Yumi there (#2). Or, you can try to deactivate and reactivate XThreads.

Do you think it is safe to deactivate and reactivate?  I won't lose any info?

No, as long as you don't uninstall it (and I've put a nice warning if you try to ).

Ok, I'm gonna try it...I seem to be missing most of the added bits from your notes!

ETA:  OK, I think we're good now!  Everything seems to be in place!  

I ran into another small problem...the theme I am using has text links for POST REPLY but when I try to change them to image links in the showthread template, I get a link to the same article's comments for each different article!  The text link must be dynamic so how can I change this link to an image link?

Where is the text link laid exactly? Is it really in showthread template?

Yes, I'm using the standard {$newpost} language in the atcgal_showthread bit right now. (Just like in the original Article Gallery example)
