Is this for real?

I'll admit i am not up on what the laws are on this? Usually though on my site i go by the coppa and or 13. However the content is suitable for those 13+. It is a weather site.
My *guess* if there is such laws ( again not sure ) would be working age with exceptions such as if it is a porn site or that sort of thing if they are trying to run one.
As far as i am concerned it all depends on what it is. I personally don't think adults and those under 18 mix to well in some settings and this gets worse the further the age spread. Mainly a generation difference thing.
Just had this very discussion on my own site about the generation differences. Someone started a post ( reply to someone elses post ) with a Lol. That to most my age and older can come across as very condescending, arrogant, or Cocky. Back where i am from it could get you knocked out. I am being dead serious. Yeah i grew up in a rougher area. The poster who made that post was younger. But anyways that is just one example of possible problems you can have.
Younger people ofcourse hate the thought that someone older may be correcting them and thus the age that they are always right. Not all do that but the majority do especially those with poor upbringings and very little experience in the outside world ( NOT Online ) with dealing with people.

Harry,
It's sorta a catch 20/20
There are Laws and Regualtions that we all have to follow and if we start now to put our heads down in the ditch we aint going to help out our futur of our children.
You and I know that the main purpose of the Internet was made by Adults and moslty for viewing by adults.
All my work to make my own 1 forum an 18+ took me alot of money and time cause MyBB is set by default for 13+.
But when making Rules on a site and Regulations in the Terms Of Service of our very own site KIDS DO NOT HAVE THOSE RIGHTS as us Adults.
Oh well I wanted to make people aware of our current online issues that we face daily

Laws differ depending on where you live. In Australia, under 18's need parents' permission to use the internet (why all schools require parents sign a form before the student can get internet access).
Apart from that, I don't believe there's a minimum age to operate a website (even if there is, I don't see it being enforced, so it's useless anyway).
For credit cards, one probably has to be at an age where one can accept contracts (usually 18+) or have the parent accept them.
If you're running an 18+ site, the general methodology is to provide a warning before entering the website.

I find that funny. You have to be 18 to view porn. But you can legally own one.

How would you obtain the porn to display on the site? I highly suspect if a adult supplied a minor with porn they would be charged and thus breaking the law.

A partner. Or set an algorithm to get images from affiliated sites.

^ That would still fall under knowingly being aware of obtaining materials you're not meant to obtain.

Yep and the owner of the site supplying it would get in trouble as would a partner if they did it. In the end both supplied Porn to a minor.

I think many there are missing the point of why age has alot to do with maturity.
some of them mention maturity and yet this subject seems to be upsetting a few and or they are feeling attacked. This has everything to do with maturity believe it or not. Why the need to feel judged unless you are guilty of such? Maturity has very little to do with knowing how to run a website/code and alot with how you react in situations and such. Like with anything there is always EXCEPTIONS but they are that just exceptions and nothing more.
Maturity comes from experience more then anything else. It ofcourse starts at home with what your parents teach you and at school. But the rest is taught in the outside world via lessons through interaction with others and or life in general. There is reasons why you cant vote till you are 18 or buy alcohol till you are 21, view/buy porn till you are either 18-21 etc etc etc. Ofcourse in other countries some of this is different. All of it is based on maturity levels of people that age. Look at it this way as well. How many teens do we know dating people in their mid/upper 20s or older? You can guess why you don't see it that often and or why it is not common plus depending on where you are if under 18 ( could be 17-16-15-14-13 ) it is called rape. Maturity has every bit to do with why such laws are on the books.
